Claudia making felt

Emerging Color

Emerging Color

Claudia, a former high school nurse, has retired to become a full-time felting artist. Felting is the agitation of wool fleece with soap and hot water to create a non-woven fabric.

What makes Claudia's work unique is her experimentation with and creative use of color, texture, and design. She likes to take chances and experiment with unusual combinations of fabric, threads, and wire until they "work." From this process evolve whimsical felted figures, clocks, wall hangings, scarves, sculpture, and vessels.

Claudia studies her work in progress and creates what she sees happening in the work. So, each piece evolves spontaneously as it is being created. When she feels thrilled, surprised, and awed about a work, she considers it complete.
