"LIVE and In COLOR" Sept. 8 - Nov. 4

Celebrating 14 years of incredible artwork, the Great Basin group of artists known as the Wild Women will return to the Wilbur May Museum at Rancho San Rafael Park for the fourth year in a row. Not to be confused with any others, the group began in 1993 largely due to founding member Jimmie Benedict who wanted to establish a community of artists in the Reno area. It has grown since then to include artists as far away as Utah to the east and Lake Tahoe to the west. Proud to be members, the Reno area the group will once again offer a raffle at the show to support “The Wild Women Emerging Artist Award “ given each year in conjunction with the National Scholastic Art Awards presented by The Nevada Museum Of Art.

This year’s show “ Wild Women LIVE and In COLOR” will kick off with an exhibit in The May Gallery in Rancho San Rafael Park September 8 through November 4, 2007. This will be followed by a demonstration day on October 13 from 12 noon to 3 pm . The three day Grand Finale Show will expand to include three more rooms in addition to the gallery exhibit at the May Center. The not to be missed event begins with a reception Friday November 2 from 5 - 8 p.m. and runs November 2, 3 and 4. Once again Kathleen Durham will be entertaining us with new tales from Underwood during story hour on Saturday, November 3, at 11 a.m.

This year, the theme is Color, that illusion that fills our world. Hans Hofmann declares that the whole world, as we experience it visually, comes to us through the mystic realm of color. Our entire being is nourished by it. This mystic quality of color should likewise find expression in a work of art. You will find color very obviously expressed in the work of Wild Women Sidne Teske, Jimmie Benedict, and guest artist Chris Hansen. Deep jewel tones radiate from Kristen Frantzen Orr, Claudia Knous, and Kathleen Durham’s work. More subtle are the colors of Gail Rappa’s jewelry and Barbara Prodaniuk's ceramic pieces or the metal sculpture helped out by the sun, snow, and wind in Susan Church’s “lay down” yard. Come and enjoy the rich painter’s palettes of guest artists Marianne Cone and Pat Wallis as well as the exotic tones of Susan Nielsen’s photographs and Gretchen Ericson’s basketry. It promises to be a feast for the senses.
